More passengers stay on track with SWR and Journey Alerts

In December, South Western Railway launched its Stay on Track campaign to let passengers know they could now get real-time journey updates via WhatsApp and Messenger, thanks to Journey Alerts. You might have spotted the campaign on station screens across the South West in the run-up to Christmas, followed by posters and social media activity in January, all spreading the word that real-time journey support doesn’t have to be complicated. Here’s the good news - it clearly struck a chord!

We saw a major uptick in new users, which means more passengers now getting step-by-step support throught heir journeys, including real-time disruption alerts, platform updates, and handy reminders, all delivered through channels they already use every day. With more users, we’re also seeing more feedback, more engagement, and more real-world insights that help us continue improving the service. It’s a brilliant sign that we’re on the right track, and that passengers value supportt hat doesn’t end when they leave the ticket office.

What this means for passengers:

  • More confident, informed journeys — even when plans change
  • Less stress at the station thanks to simple, timely info.
  • No need to download or learn a new app — just message us and go.
  • A smoother experience overall, especially for those who find public transport overwhelming.

It’s all part of our mission to make rail travel simpler and more accessible for everyone, and we’re delighted to see that message is reaching more people than ever. So if you’re travelling with SWR and haven’t tried it yet, it’s easy to get started. Just scan a poster, or send a message to Journey Alerts on WhatsApp or Messenger, and we’ll do the rest. No downloads, no fuss.
