Bedford Borough Council has partnered with Journey Alerts to launch a new, easy-to-use service aimed at making public transport simpler and less stressful for all residents and visitors. The app-free Journey Alerts system provides live updates, disruption warnings, and alternative travel options without the need for complicated technology.
Public transport can often feel confusing, especially for those not comfortable with digital tools or unfamiliar with the routes. Many regular passengers have also expressed a strong desire for better real-time travel information to help them plan routes around delays and disruptions. Journey Alerts addresses these needs with a quick-access system available via phone or online, delivering live updates directly through WhatsApp, Messenger,or QR codes at bus stops, buses, and key local events.
The rollout of Journey Alerts is underway throughout Bedford Borough, with every bus stop expected to display QR codes linked totailored journey information. This initiative ensures passengers can scan, plan, and travel confidently with up-to-date transport news that helps keep them moving smoothly.
Councillor Nicola Gribble, Portfolio Holder for Environment at Bedford Borough Council, said:
“We are delighted to introduce Journey Alerts to Bedford Borough as part of our ongoing commitment to making public transport more accessible and reliable for everyone. Whether you’re a frequent traveller, someone who finds bus travel challenging, or visiting our town for the first time, this new service will provide clear, real-time information to help you get where you need to go with confidence and ease.”
The service is delivered in partnership between Bedford Borough Council and Journey Alerts, funded through the Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) programme. Its development focuses specifically on supporting bus travel for Bedford Borough’s residents and visitors.
